Ran across these three way speakers today---never heard of them before. Anyone out there know anything about them? They remind me of a 604 based system in a Valencia style cab--might be a unique addition to someone's "arsenal" (there's a phone number in the ad).... No affiliation with seller yada yada......

I've always liked the way the earlier University's looked. These look like later models. Didn't EV use the Mustang name....... previous to the EV take-over/merger/purchase of Altec? Maybe I'm confusing Mustang with Wolverine?
That horn reminds me of the one that Old Guy has mentioned sounds horrible...... I don't know if it's the same, Though. I suppose it depends on what driver is baking it up.
I've gotten to the end of this message, and I realize I don't really have an answer for you....... other than I'm not impressed at $700, but that's not coming from any real knowledge on those drivers.

The Mustang was University's low end stuff
Those are later, probably the last gasp of University in the Hi-Fi market They have tin frames. Most of the Mustangs still had cast, to give you an idea how low end those are.
Probably a nice $75 set of speakers

Just a curiosity, anybody recognize the cabinets?
Looks like they originally housed a woofer/driver with curved mounting "ears" outside the rim, like a pioneer CW series woofer or RCA LC1 uses.

What's funny is how people will always say something like this: Great drivers like the Altec 604.:lol: Not on there best day !!!
When they are trying to sell less than desirable speakers they will compare to another Good speaker hoping someone will assume they are just like the other speakers.
Wow--I just looked at the photos---what a difference! But just out of curiosity--do they really go to 40,000 hz as listed? The link lists their frequency response as 28 - 40000 KHz. I'm assuming he means 40,000 hz, not khz. But even at 40,000 hz--I'm wondering is that figure the product of an ebay seller's over active imagination or is that +/- 1,000 db? I don't think there's going to be any desirable sound recorded onto vinyl, DVD, CD etc. past 20,000 hz is there? I think I'd have to buy a vintage Craig Powerplay 8-track system to get up to 40,000 khz? :doh:Originally Posted by Old Guy
